Rewiring
What a rewire involves
Worcester and anywhere within 50 miles. Domestic and commercial.
A rewire replaces the cables, the accessories and usually the fuse board, so the whole house is on modern, protected circuits. It's the biggest electrical job most homes ever have, and the one where how it's run matters as much as the wiring itself.
Before anything starts, we walk the house with you and agree where every socket, switch and light goes. It's much cheaper to move a line on a plan than a cable in a wall. Then the work runs in two stages.
First fix
New cables go in: under floorboards, through ceilings and chased into walls where they have to be. This is the disruptive part, and it's where planning room by room pays off.
Second fix
Once walls are made good, the sockets, switches and fittings go on, the new board is connected, and every circuit is tested. You get the certificate when it's done.
Most people do. We plan the order of work so you keep a working kitchen and bathroom for as much of the job as possible, and we'll be straight with you about the days that are harder.
Signs a house needs rewiring
- Old rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cable anywhere in the house
- A fuse box with fuse wire, or no RCD protection
- Sockets on skirting boards, or far too few of them for how you live now
- Lights and sockets that flicker, buzz or feel warm
- A big renovation coming up: the best time to rewire is before the plaster goes on

What customers say
From people who've had us in.
We had a full rewire done on an old property, and I was dreading the mess and disruption. John made the whole process smooth, kept us informed, and worked around us to minimise the impact. Absolutely brilliant service!
We have used ISM for years. Very trusted, very reliable, highly recommended.
We've had two reasonably small jobs done by John now. Both were very competitively priced. John turned up exactly on time as promised and did an excellent job.
Questions
Rewiring: common questions
Do I need a full rewire, or just part of the house?
It depends on what's there. If the cable is old throughout, a full rewire is the honest answer. If one area has been added to over the years, sometimes only part needs doing. We'll test first and tell you which it is, with the reasons.
How long does a rewire take?
It depends on the size of the house, access and what's being added. You'll get a realistic timeline with the written quote, and we'll tell you which days will be the most disruptive.
Will there be a lot of mess?
There's no such thing as a rewire without some mess, but it can be kept small. Dust sheets go down, floorboards go back, and we agree up front what making good is included.
When should the electrician come in during a renovation?
Early. First fix happens after strip-out and before plastering, so the cables can go where you want them. Book us when the builder books the plasterer, not after.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Every job is tested before we leave, and you get the certificate.
